‘I am certain to come back here one day!’ said Russia’s future Czar, Alexander III, in the summer of 1880 while visiting the beautiful Langinkoski and its surroundings. And sure enough, a fishing lodge was built for the imperial family, so that they could take time off from the rigours of court life in Saint Petersburg and enjoy fishing, chopping firewood, cooking and spending time in each other’s company. Come and enjoy the imperial atmosphere, and the peace and tranquillity of the National Urban Park!

History

The imperial fishing hut at Langinkoski is a summer residence built for emperor Alexander III of Russia in the late 1880s. For an imperial building, the fishing hut is modest, but its style does have a simplified grace. Several buildings from the same period are located in the museum area, surrounded by a nature reserve. The hut has been used as a museum since the 1930s.

National Urban Park

Established in 2014, the Kotka National Urban Park encompasses 2,400 hectares of diverse natural landscapes and impressive historical architecture. The complex of buildings surrounding the Imperial Fishing Lodge at Langinkoski, along with the dense, protected forest growing around the rapids, are part of this award-winning park complex.

South of Langinkoski lies a tree species park established in 1959. The park forest, established by Metsähallitus, was planted with saplings of some twenty different tree species.
