Castles
In the Middle Ages, castles were centers of power, administration, and defense. There were six medieval castles in Finland, of which Häme Castle and Olavinlinna are now part of the National Museum of Finland. Today, castles are valuable cultural heritage sites where you can learn about medieval life and history. The educational material is aimed at grades 4-6 of primary school.
Task
Take a virtual tour of Häme Castle.
- Find the largest room.
- Find the structure related to defense.
- Find the place where food was prepared.
- Conclude which modern things correspond to the rooms and structures of the castle: the main gate, the fireplace, the well, the castle walls.
