Loan requests
Items in the National Museum’s collections may be loaned for a maximum of five years, based on written requests. Loan requests must be submitted to the National Museum at least six months before the intended start date of the loan period. Requests involving larger numbers of objects should preferably be submitted even earlier. This ensures sufficient time for processing the loan, preparing condition reports, and carrying out any necessary conservation work.
The loan request must include detailed information about the requested object(s), as well as the organiser, title, venue, and dates of the exhibition. The preferred loan period should also be specified. Information about the environmental conditions at the exhibition venue must be provided. Relative humidity, temperature, and lighting levels must meet standard museum requirements. The borrower is responsible for arranging insurance that covers the objects for the entire loan period.
Artefacts are loaned for a fee, which the Finnish Heritage Agency charges to cover the costs of handling objects, compiling a condition report and packing. The fee is €78/h.
