Yle’s Outo historia (Weird history) and the National Museum of Finland are organizing a historical Treasure Hunt in Roblox for the first time. Dive into the sea, search for a gold coin in a field, and win a medieval two-handed sword as a prize. The adventure begins on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
In the Treasure Hunt, the player sets out to find real historical treasures discovered in Finland, hidden within Yle’s own game world. Upon finding an object, the player takes it to the National Museum, where Summeri host Elsa tells a short story about the item.
The objects are from the collections of the National Museum of Finland and the Finnish Heritage Agency. A digital replica of the National Museum’s historical main building has also been created in the game. Some of the objects in the game can be seen at the National Museum, which will reopen in the spring of 2027.
A comb ornament found in the wreck of the St. Nikolai, which sank in the Battle of Svensksund, is a memento of a tragically ended love story. Just how beautiful and masterful can a 4,000–5,000-year-old elk-head stone axe be? And what do the tooth marks in a chewing gum-like piece of Stone Age birch bark tar tell us?
The Treasure Hunt combines adventurous gameplay with historical facts. It is part of Yle’s long-term work aimed at developing stimulating and engaging digital content for children and youth. The National Museum of Finland also wants to inspire people of all ages to discover history in a new way and experience adventures in the past.
Previously, Linnan juhlat (Independence Day Reception) has been organized four times in Yle’s Roblox game world. Players have also danced there to the beat of UMK and participated in an Art Hunt with the Finnish National Gallery.
Outo historia: Treasure Hunt opens to the public on Thursday, October 29. The Treasure Hunt is part of Yle’s Outo historia product family, which includes a documentary series on Yle Areena as well as active social media content.
