Pilot cutter Pitkäpaasi

The pilot cutter Pitkäpaasi was ordered in 1898 from the legendary Colin Archer shipyard in Norway for the Finnish Pilot and Lighthouse Service, the predecessor of the Finnish Maritime Administration. Pitkäpaasi is of immense historical value to Finnish maritime history and is the only surviving example of the most famous class of vessels in the history of the Finnish Maritime Administration. The vessel’s service with the Pilot and Lighthouse Service ended in the 1920s. Afterward, the pilot cutter remained under foreign ownership for decades until it returned to Finland in 2000, having sailed the world’s oceans for 66 years. Pitkäpaasi is part of the Maritime Museum of Finland’s collection as a sailing museum ship.
