The former Hämeenlinna County Prison, now the Prison Museum, is located in Finland’s first prison cell block, completed in 1871. The prison cells are small, and the doorways and hallways are narrow. The doors to the exhibition spaces and all the cells have thresholds.
Wheelchair
The main entrance to the prison is on the first floor, which is accessed via a few steps. The prison also has an accessible entrance located on the ground floor on the other side of the building. From the entrance, a stairlift takes you to the first floor. Stairlift dimensions: width 750 mm and length 850 mm. Maximum weight 300 kg. To use the stairlift, please contact the Prison ticket office at 0295 33 6202. Inside the prison, you can use a modern elevator to travel between floors. Inside the Prison, the cells are small, and the doorways and hallways are narrow.

Guide and service dogs are welcome. Otherwise, pets are not allowed in the Prison.

Café
There is no café in the prison. The nearest café is located at Häme Castle, right next to the prison. The café is located in Häme Castle’s Kruununleipomo and is open during the summer from June 1 to August 31. The space is at street level, but the route includes a cobblestone slope, one threshold, and one step.
Museum shop and Ticket office
There is no ramp from the prison courtyard to the museum shop and ticket office.
Strollers
It is difficult to navigate the prison with strollers or baby carriages.

Public restrooms are located on the 1st floor and the -1st floor (basement) of the prison.
