Olavinlinna will once again be adorned with a spectacular light art installation when the castle’s festive illuminations shine from 13 November to 14 December 2026 as part of the ‘Savonlinna Shines’ light festival. For a whole month, the historic castle will be bathed in light, creating a unique atmosphere during the darkest time of the year.
Throughout November and December, ‘Savonlinna Shines’ brings together light art, illuminated cultural sites and a varied programme of events across the city. The event offers experiences and encounters for both locals and visitors alike, and forms part of the programme for the ‘Year of Cultural Dreams’.
During the ‘Bridges of Light’ weekend, 13–15 November, Savonlinna comes to life in a special way. The weekend features interactive light art, projections and experiences by the water and in natural surroundings. Light will be brought to the area around Olavinlinna Castle, Riihisaari and other notable locations across the city, offering new perspectives on familiar scenery.
The light art at Olavinlinna will reach its peak during the St Thomas’s Market on 13 December, when the castle’s fairy-tale lighting will add the finishing touch to the festive atmosphere.
