Guided tours

The guided tours explore life in the 19th-century Finnish countryside and traditional Finnish housing. Tours are available from 15 May to 15 September. Public guided tours included in the admission ticket are offered daily between 15 June and 31 August and on weekends until 15 September.

Public tours are provided daily from 15 June to 31 August 2026. In September we provide public guided tours on weekends until 15 September.

The guided tours are included in the entrance fee. You do not need to pre-book a place for the tour. The tours depart in front of the Iisalmi Parsonage, a building where you can also find the museum shop. The duration of the tours is around 45–60 min.

Groups can book a private tour, as we do not accept groups on public tours.

  • In Finnish daily at 13.00.
  • In English daily at 15.00.
  • In Swedish at 12.00 on 28 June, 26 July, and 30 August (the last Sunday of each month).
Guided tours on weekends, 1–15 September 2026
  • In Finnish at 13.00 on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • In English at 15.00 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Seurasaari tour, 45–60 min

The Seurasaari tour is an introductory tour of the Open-Air Museum and its unique historic setting. The tour provides an overview of the museum’s history and rural life in 19th-century Finland. The tour includes visits to 2–3 museum buildings. According to your interests, the private tour can focus on Finnish traditional architecture, crafts, farm animals, food management, the history of the landless, common people, the gentry, or regional cultural differences. Available until 13 June.

From the Parsonage to the Summer Cottage 45–60 min

From the Parsonage to the Summer Cottage is the Open-Air Museum’s introductory guided tour, during which you’ll explore a few different museum buildings. Starting from the Iisalmi Parsonage, the tour explores both traditional rural life and the history of summer cottaging in Finland. The tour ends at Seurasaari’s newest museum building, the Summer Cottage. Available from June 13.

Introduction to Seurasaari, 15 min

Are you planning a visit to the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum? This introduction offers a brief overview of the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum and its surroundings. It is an excellent way to begin your visit before exploring the museum independently. Also suitable for large groups!

Seurasaari Open-Air Museum in easy Finnish, 45–60 min

Seurasaari is an outdoor recreation area where old buildings have been brought together from different locations around Finland. The tour includes visits to 2–3 buildings and provides an introduction to rural life in Finland over 100 years ago.

Seurasaari Open-Air Museum for schools and day-care centres, 45–60 min

The Seurasaari tour for school groups includes visits to 2–3 museum buildings and offers a deeper look into a theme selected by the teacher. The tour is suitable for pupils and students in early, basic, and upper secondary education. The content and approach are adapted to the age and interests of each group. Available themes:

  4. Peasants, crofters, lords of the manor and the landless

  • Private guided tour, 45–60 min, € 80 / group + entrance fee / person.
  • Guided tours for school groups, 45–60 min, € 50 / group, includes entrance fees.
  • Guided tours outside museum opening hours: € 180 + entrance fee / person.

You can book a guided tour in Finnish, Swedish or English as well as in easy Finnish. You may choose only one language per guide. Group size max. 20–25 people.

Admission to the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum is free of charge for school and student groups in full-time education. Groups may explore the museum independently under the supervision of a teacher or book a guided tour. The fee for a guided tour for school and student groups is € 50.

Please notify the museum office of your visit in advance. When contacting us, please provide the estimated group size, the date of the visit and the expected arrival time. Visits can be registered and guided tours booked by email at seurasaari@kansallismuseo.fi or by phone at +358 295 33 6912 (1 April–30 October).

The museum is open from 15 May to 15 September. Upon arrival, groups can collect admission tickets rom the ticket kiosk or the museum shop located in the Iisalmi Parsonage. The tickets allow access to the museum buildings.

The teacher or other group leader is responsible for the group throughout the visit. The group must remain together and be accompanied by its supervisor at all times.
