The room is furnished with Empire and Biedermeier-style furniture from the early 19th century. The built-in and freestanding bookcases with their books are from Louhisaari, as are the plaster sculptures. The small bronze bust on the writing desk depicts Emperor Nicholas I; the plaster busts on top of the cabinets depict H. G. Porthan, Alexander I, and a plaster copy of the ancient sculpture of Venus. The library chair dates from the latter half of the 19th century.
The portrait of Emperor Alexander I is likely a copy painted by portraitist J. E. Lindh around 1825–1828 of the full-length portrait of the emperor held at the Vaasa Court of Appeal. Lindh’s painting is an example of the numerous copies of imperial portraits that were needed for various government agencies and institutions.
The built-in bookcases on the library wall contain literature from the 19th century that belonged to the Mannerheim family.
The Count’s library was restored and repainted in the winter of 2023 to reflect the room’s early 19th-century color scheme. We will soon add photos to this page showing the room’s new look.
